April 12th, 2007not on my dime
I closed the comments to the first post that caused TEH DRAMAZZZZ OMG. Others might have their own opinion, but that’s why God created blogspot.com. Feel free to post yours there.
I would like to also note that I posted every single comment that came in (well, except for the ones about viagra and something about a grandmother and a donkey), even these:
“I think you are over reacting and all breastfeeding Mom are tainted by your hysterical sounding stance.”
“And I might add, your second correspondence to Marriott is completely unprofessional, hysterical and over the top….Sad thing is, overreactions such as yours are what give folks such a bad taste in their mouth for “breastfeeders”.”
“Oh for god sakes. It’s people like you who give other women a bad name. Making such a damn fuss about something — seriously, get a grip.”
I think that should be my new tagline - Giving Women A Bad Name Since 2007. I live to give. At any rate, I don’t need to pay for others to share their opinions like that. So I closed it.
I also can’t help but think that this entire situation would have been vastly different if the manager for the hotel had written back with something less trite. I would have been posting an entry about what a wonderful response I’d gotten.
However, enough about me. Let’s talk about me.
I pulled out my film SLR the other day and have been taking some pictures of Matthew with it. I’d like to get a DSLR but that’ll have to wait until after the move (we’re moving to a two bedroom apartment - hallelujah!) and after we save up enough money to do so. At any rate, I’m just waiting for the weather to stop sucking ass long enough for natural sunlight to come in - even with the flash and all the lights on here, there’s still not quite enough light.
Do you have a digital SLR? What kind do you have? Do you like yours?

Canon Rebel. I love it! It’s big and bulky, but the pictures are amazing.

What’s your film SLR?

Hi Casey– my DSLR is a Nikon D70, and I love and adore it. It’s a bit bulky (like the Canon), but really, most of the weight and bulk comes from the lense. The pictures are GORGEOUS.
I got my DSLR from a friend, who upgraded to a D200 for professional photography.

You closed the comments because you couldn’t take the criticism. And you are the one that started all the DRAMAZZZZ.
Get a grip lady, you aren’t the only woman in the world to have ever had and nursed a baby.
I guess you think that every establishment that you frequent should have accommodations for your specific needs at any moment, right? Sorry, but that’s not the way the world works, it does not revolve around you and your kid.
Oh, and before you start spouting off, I have a 3.5 year old son and would never expect any organization to bend over backwards for my special needs.
Besides, from what you detailed in your letter, the front desk staff attempted to help you by calling a Spa and asking other staff members, you just didn’t like the answer you were given.
Again, it’s your decision to nurse your child and you could have pumped, you had batteries in your pump, you didn’t need an outlet. You just wanted to make a big point out of your new found fame as “mommy”.
Your letter to a major corporation was like a temper tantrum from a 4 year old child.
The apology you received was exactly what you asked for initially, an apology. What exactly are you hoping will happen? That this resort builds a Mommy & Me room for the next time a dramtic Working Mother attends a conference? Honestly? Was that the response you were looking for? I’m quite certain, you would continue the DRAMAZZZZ regardless of how the Marriott responded.
You should be satisfied that someone took the time out of their busy day to even bother answering your crazy rant.

Sorry, I simply had to comment on your entry about the hotel.
1. I find your choice to breastfeed admirable.
2. I find your assumption that the hotel bears any responsibility to give you a space to breastfeed ridiculous. The fact that the hotel, which were not even a “customer” of btw, tried to find you a space speaks volumes for the hotel.
So please stop with the “I’m a breastpumping crusader, fighting the fight!” schtick.
The managers response was well within guidelines, especially since THE HOTEL DID NOTHING WRONG.
Here is an idea. Next time, get a DC to AC converter and pump in the quiet comfort and air conditioned environment of your car.
More thinking and preparation, less calling the waahhhhhmbulance.

I’m leaving your posts up because at this point I’m amused at your insistence. I’ll close this down, not because I can’t take the heat (Miranda, you’ll notice I posted your scribe, which I don’t have to, but I did) so the rest of my readers don’t have to listen to your insane babbling.
If you have an opinion, start your own damned blog.

Here’s a link to one of the better sites that review cameras:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/
Here’s a link to a camera that the previous site rates highly, and that is apparently a successor to a camera I have which fits in my pocket like a pack of cigarettes.

There are plenty of decent cameras now, however.
